Musikalische Reichtümer aus einem der ärmsten Länder der Erde: Madagaskar. In den frühen 1970ern befeuerte der junge Student Dama gemeinsam mit Kommilitonen, Medizinern und Soziologen, mit kritischen Liedern das damalige revolutionäre Aufbegehren der kleinen Leute, und ihre Band Mahaleo ist seitdem landesweit populär. Dama Mahaleo hat auch solistisch – als Liedermacher, Dichter und Persönlichkeit des öffentlichen Lebens – nie aufgehört, die Ereignisse in seinem Land musikalisch zu kommentieren.
Er trifft auf seinen in Madagaskar nicht minder berühmten Kollegen und Landsmann, den Gitarristen und Sänger Erick Manana. Er lebt seit den frühen 1980ern in Frankreich und hält weltweit in der madegassischen Diaspora die musikalische Vielfalt der Insel, vor allem die Reisbauernklänge seiner Hochland-Heimat und die städtische Liedtradition der Hauptstadt Antananarivo, lebendig – bewahrend, aber auch kreativ-innovativ.

„Lova-tsovina” heißt auf madegassisch das Von-innen-heraus-Verstehen und Rein-mündliche-Überliefern der Tradition – eine faszinierende, unerschöpfliche Quelle musikalischer Erfahrung für die junge deutsche Musikerin und Ethnologin Jenny Fuhr, die seit 2009 gemeinsam mit Erick Manana auf der Bühne steht. Die größere Formation Madagascar Roots Band debütierte 2012 im Palais des Sports von Antananarivo, 2013 folgten Auftritte im Pariser Olympia und in der Berliner Philharmonie.
